Fairlee, VT -- August 18th, 2003
By special request:
Hilary asked for some pictures of the interior of the cabins. I shot a few in our cabin (Pine Nook) while Jane was napping this afternoon. I do not mean to implyh that Jane sleeps a lot in Vermint, but you can draw your own conclusions.
- Looking from the door into the room. You can see the bed, the bathroon door, the kitchen sink unit, and my messy desk in the foreground, where I am sitting right this minute typing on my laptop.
- Looking from the fridge. On the loft, opver the laptop screen, is the door to the porch. To the right, over the bed, is the window to the porch. More about these later. Further right is the kitchen sink with the dish storage shelves over it. The bathroom is behind the kitchen sink.
- Looking at the porch from the inside door. You can see the front steps and the lake outside. The table on the right is where we eat and work and entertain. It has the best view in the house. Although tJane says that even when she is at the kitchen sink chopping she can see the lake, and it makes her heart glad (editorial comment).
- A better view of the cooking area on the porch. We have a toaster oven, a hotplate, a coffee maker, and a water-boiler thingie. Before we had running water we kept all our cooking and eating utensils here, closer to the dish washing area on the front steps. Note the window into the sleeping area.
- Looking in through this window, overlooking Jane napping. You can see into the bathroom, the end of the kitchen sink, the "pantry," the fridge, and my "office."
Jane wanted to show how good the outside of hte cabins and the new construction looks since they were stained. When I get around to writing a final journal entry for this summer remind me to tell about the guy and the process of matching the color(s) of our cabins.
- Pine Nook, new shower and all, in all its newly stained splendor.
If you have read this far, you deserve to know that I have been talking to builders and architects this past week. We are commissioning some initial design drawings, and have narrowed the builders down to two. We will be cutting two "hundred year" white pines this fall, and sending them to the sawmill to be cut and dried and made into floor boards and maybe beams and roofing for the new house. And yes, kids, the "storage" area over the living quarters will be a loft accessible from the great room by a ladder up the north wall.
to be continued . . . . . . next summer?
