Revised November 2005
Through the Seasons at Idle Pine

It has now been three and a half years since I bought a lot with two cabins on Lake Fairlee. In the summer of 2002 we had planned a van adventure to Newfoundland and Labrador, so we spent only a few days in Vermont. In July and August of 2003 we lived on the lake in one of the cabins, and by the time we left had electricity, hot and cold running water, and a new outdoor shower. These adventures are chronicled elsewhere. In 2004 we spent three months here and began construction of a winterized house on the rise behind the cabins. In 2005 we lived in the cabins from mid May until we finally were able top move into the house in late September.

From time to time I have walked out to the tip of Treasure Island and taken pictures looking back at the cabins. I put them together on this page because I liked the way they show the property throught the seasons.

The view in August, 2002. Full summer foliage almost hides the cabins.

In September, 2002, after Jane and I had cleared some underbrush in front of the cabins.

In November, 2002. Note the steam rising from the lake. It was about 15 degrees farenheit.

In May, 2003, before the leaves have returned.

August 2003

We have done a lot of clearing, and the water level is about 6" higher in this picture

January 2004

The house site has been cleared, including the removal of two big pines

June 2004

The foundation has been poured, and the ferns and green leaves are returning.

July 2004

The new dock is in, and there is progress on the house. Note the new tent platform to the right.

January 2005

Ice on the lake, and the outer shell of the new house is complete.
The last leaning birch is gone from the lakeshore, which has been recently graded.

May 2005

The house is nearly completed, the leaves are not yet on the trees,
but the docks have not yet returned to the lake.

June 2005

The leaves have returned to the trees, and the docks are in.
This picture was taken from a canoe, slightly to the left of the point.

November 2005

Early morning sun on a chilly November day gives a warm, orange glow to the new house.
Note the new porch on the left hand cabin, Pine Crest.
