Notes to Idle Pine Floorplan -- 2/29/04

The house will be constructed on a rocky ledge about 75 feet from the lake behind and above the two heritage cabins. The plans are oriented with true north directly to the left side of the page. The view of the lake is "up and to the right" on the plan. The great room and master bedroom windows make the lake their focus. We plan to have guests stay in the two existing cabins and in a planned platform tent.

There will be a wide covered porch surrounding the great room, partially screened, which will serve as living and dining space in the summer. We anticipate that the primary entrance will be from the south porch in the summer months, and through the "mud room" entryway in the cold and wet seasons. There is an outside entrance to the second bathroom for use by tenters.

The house will be built as near to the existing grade as feasible, as it already will stick up from its environs due to its situation. There will be as much basement as possible, for insulation and storage. The basement will not be finished, and will be accessible from the outside only.

The roof will be 5/12 pitch, standing seam steel. It will span the great room and the porch to the east, with a shed continuing around to cover the south porch. The height to the inside peak of the great room will be slightly more than fifteen feet. There will be a post in the center of the span in the great room, indicated by the cactus in the plans. (limitations of the software)

There will be a loft above the bathroom area, accessible by a ladder up the north wall of the great foom. It will be 16 feet wide, 18 feet deep, 3.5 feet high at the eaves, and 7 feet high in the middle.

(the folowing notes added late February 2004)

We are still "jiggling" the master bedroom, closet, and bathroom. As shown there will be a partial wall separating the closet from the bedroom, extending up from the floor about seven feet, so as not to break up the cathedral ceiling.

Below kitchen counters to be sliding shelves (open faced drawers)

Now considering soapstone for kitchen counter, sink, and island.
